Facepunch has managed to create a live-service survival game unlike any other with Rust in the creativity and pure rage that it inspires. The developer has consistently released monthly content updates for years now, with the latest update being announced and the server wipe happening this Thursday, Aug. 3, at 11 pm, with downtime being up to an hour.
This update is mandatory for anyone who wants to play the game on public servers, and most private ones, but doesn’t include any huge content updates. The top thing that Facepunch mentions for the August Rust update is a brick texture, with further additions including the ability to use emojis in chat, ping changes, tugboat improvements, and many other fixes.
It makes sense that this update might be smaller considering that the July content update brought an entire new water system to the game, which also includes a transition line when the POV is partially underwater. The developer even makes sure to point out in the blog post that this was a hard system to create given all the interactions between the water and different objects.
This also included a new tugboat that players can find at the port locations on maps if they have them, with some improvements coming this month to fix that. It’s still an early version, so players will need to be patient for more updates like this month where there are improvements. Players can likely expect larger updates planned as Facepunch is able to further improve the new water systems.
