Tim Willits, a leading figure at Saber Interactive, has responded to concerns about the future of several highly anticipated games after the studio’s recent split from Embracer Group. In a tweet, Willits assured fans that work is ongoing on titles such as Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2, John Carpenter’s Toxic Commando, and Jurassic Park: Survival.
The announcement is a relief for fans who were unsure about the future of these projects. We reported on Sabre being taken out as well as what could happen to Knight of the Old Republic, so it was up in the air. Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2, the sequel to the 2011 cult classic, has been eagerly anticipated by fans of the grim-dark science fiction universe. John Carpenter’s Toxic Commando, while more mysterious, seems to be inspired by a classic film by the legendary horror director – possibly a game adaptation of The Toxic Avenger.
Jurassic Park: Survival suggests a new entry in the dinosaur-filled franchise, possibly focusing on survival gameplay elements. Willits’ confirmation shows that these projects were not solely reliant on the Saber-Embracer partnership. The titles may have obtained separate funding or different development deals. Willits has pledged to share more details “soon,” However, this timeline can be subjective in the gaming industry, and significant updates may require some time.
It’s really nice to see that Sabre dropping another studio didn’t lead to more projects being canceled or people being fired. This split may help the studio because they should have more freedom away from Embracer. We’ll see where this goes, but three games coming is definitely a win.
