Trials of Osiris in Destiny 2 is set to receive significant adjustments as the Season of the Deep progresses. The game mode is shifting from Elimination to Dominion, and the introduction quest has been updated to better facilitate the path to Trials for newcomers, rewarding them for completion.
Matchmaking and gameplay will see a series of modifications intended to enhance the competitive experience. The Flawless pool will no longer activate on Sunday, and both the Challenger and Practice soft pools will be active throughout the weekend. These “soft” pools refer to matchmaking preferences which avoid merging pools initially but can do so to ensure a good game promptly.
Players’ placement in these pools depends on various factors. Those playing their first game of the week or carrying a card with a recorded loss will find themselves in the Practice pool. This pool operates based on weekly performance and connection-based matchmaking. Conversely, those playing on a Flawless card or partnering with someone with such a card will join the Challenger pool. Notably, the Challenger pool relies solely on connection-based matchmaking. Wins on a card will no longer factor into matchmaking.
A previously identified issue causing lobby balancing in solo and duo Trials matches has been rectified. Now, in the Challenger pool, each player’s skill will be overwritten with the same value to randomize the lobbies effectively.
The Season of the Deep is also adjusting Trials rewards to add incentives and balance benefits. Upon achieving Flawless status for the first time in a Season, players will receive a Seasonal Flawless shader, applicable to any gear piece. The Passage of Mercy will forgive two losses if players have not yet attained Flawless status for the week, reverting to forgiving a single loss for subsequent attempts once Flawless status is achieved.
The Passage of Wealth will now grant bonus Trials reputation with each win, with the bonus amount increasing proportionally to the player’s major Trials rank. After attaining Flawless status for the week, any win on a 7-win card—whether Flawless or not—may drop the weekly Adept weapon. This bonus reward, previously exclusive to the Flawless pool starting on Sunday, will be active all weekend and does not require players to be in a specific pool. However, to balance this extended duration and availability, the chance of acquiring an Adept from a win has been slightly reduced.
The Gilded Flawless requirements have seen an update in this new Season. An additional emblem has been introduced, rewarding players for achieving Flawless status without ever trailing in any wins on the card.
