Sonic the Hedgehog has gotten a major “Sonic Central” showcase today, revealing a variety of announcements for the franchise, as teased just days ago. The showcase coincides with Sonic’s official birthday, featuring big updates for games like Sonic Frontiers and more. Here’s the full showcase from the Sonic the Hedgehog YouTube channel:
Sonic Frontiers
Sonic Frontiers is adding a new Birthday Bash update later today, including a range of new challenges, moves, collectable Koco, and new game+. Making this a free update will definitely create a better sense of community and appreciation.
Roblox
A new event in Roblox’s collaborative Sonic Speed Simulator will give classic Sonic a new Tuxedo cosmetic. It’s a simple but fun little costume that fans should enjoy, and very dignified for a birthday.
Sonic Prime
A trailer for new episodes of Netflix’s popular animated series Sonic Prime was revealed today, announcing a July 13th premiere date. The trailer centers on Shadow reluctantly working with Sonic in a race for shards that distort reality. Although Sonic Prime has been a little divisive, the animation and performances are always reliable.
Sonic Dash and Sonic Forces
The classic mobile game Sonic Dash is now slated to join Netflix as Sonic Prime Dash. Its release will coincide with the new episodes of Sonic Prime on July 13th, 2023. July will also see the addition of Dragon Hunter Lancelot. Classic Super Sonic is expected to join mobile games too, with new events planned for both Sonic Dash and Sonic Forces.
Samba de Amigo: Party Central
Sonic the Hedgehog-themed songs will be added to Samba de Amigo: Party Central when it launches on August 29th, 2023, for the Nintendo Switch. This includes a stage and track from Sonic Adventure 2, which is a surprising nostalgia trip that is sure to please longtime fans.
Merchandise
A series of new licensed products were revealed today, including a playset of Jakks Pacific, new crocs, a collaboration with Hypeland streetwear coming June 26th, gaming stands of Shadow and Sonic, an S-Fire statue, and even an ESP Sonic guitar arriving soon. A comic book was also revealed, celebrating Amy’s 30th anniversary.
LEGO sets were also teased, with some sets centered on Eggman, including a giant mech and one that makes Sonic look more like the classic villain. This is expected in August, alongside the other LEGO sets that were revealed in April.
Sonic Superstars
A compelling new interview with Takashi Iizuka and Naoto Ohshima was teased, discussing the highly anticipated game’s inspiration and vision. Surprisingly, the LEGO Sonic brand is also going to be crossing over with Sonic Superstars, and pre-orders will earn players an exclusive LEGO Dr. Eggman skin.
There were also assorted, smaller announcements. The Sonic Symphony World Tour that was announced in May also added some new cities, another season of Tails Tube was announced for YouTube, and a themed restaurant is coming to San Diego Comic Con. New info on Sonic the Hedgehog 3 and the Knuckles spin-off series is expected soon.
