The Sonic franchise is one of the most important game series ever created, cementing its main characters as gaming icons for years. Now, during the Nintendo Direct in June 2023, 12 new zones and four playable characters have been announced for the next title in the hit franchise, Sonic Superstars.

In the trailer, players get a better look at the multiplayer gameplay and the different mechanics that will come into play during this new 2D Sonic adventure. The four characters that will be exploring Sonic Superstar‘s zones together include Sonic, Knuckles, Tails, and Amy. What’s even better is that up to four players will be able to play locally on the same system.

One of the interesting abilities shown in the trailer briefly sees the screen taken over by a clone of whatever character the player is playing as. The game can support up to four players which could make for a lot of clones on the screen all at once. While it looks cool, it’s unclear what purpose this clone ability will serve in the actual gameplay.

The graphics and level design in the trailer seems really faithful to the classic 2D Sonic games while still looking fresh and modern. New and old Sonic fans are sure to find plenty to enjoy while running through these levels as their favorite characters.

This is a developing story and more information will be added about Sonic Superstars as it becomes available. Check back at Try Hard Guides for all the latest information on the new Sonic Superstars and the June 2023 Nintendo Direct.
