Beloved platforming hero Sonic the Hedgehog is getting another dedicated “Sonic Central” showcase this year, on June 23rd, 2023. Coinciding with the character’s birthday, it’s scheduled to begin at 8 AM pacific time. Fans can view the event on the official Sonic YouTube and Twitch channels.
A new tweet from the blue blur’s official feed adds that viewers will be treated to a sneak peek of upcoming projects, partnerships, and other events planned for this year. Here’s the promo image and details from today’s announcement tweet:

Sonic Central is a relatively new annual event, and it’s a little surprising that the socials waited so long to announce this. And last year, the showcase was held much earlier, on June 7th. But it’s definitely some great fan service that the event will land squarely on Sonic’s birthday this year.
Sonic Central 2022 only lasted around ten minutes, so fans should probably expect a similar runtime this year. However, a lot of announcements were packed into that showcase. It featured the blue blur’s titles on every kind of platform, a collaboration with Fall Guys, more about the film adaptations and even licensing deals.
The Sonic franchise just revealed new details about Sonic Superstars today for the Nintendo Direct, so it’s hard to tell how much more the IP is willing to share later this week.
However, there should be plenty of other reveals. It’s clear that Sonic is busier than ever when he’s getting new LEGO sets this August, and his latest title is getting announced for the Nintendo Switch. The crossover should still feel pretty bizarre for those who grew up alongside Sonic.
Hopefully there will be new game reveals, more about the movie sequel Sonic the Hedgehog 3, the Knuckles TV series, and perhaps some big collaboration surprises.
