In their latest patch, Sons of the Forest introduces a range of new features and improvements, including the introduction of electric fences, a newly added trap referred to as the ‘Hokey Pokey’, and more.

Patch 08 comes with a host of modifications, such as the addition of a new found footage video, electric fences and the freeform electric wire placement option. Further, the patch includes a new feature that allows players to carry and play radios.

Golf carts, an already existing feature in the game, have been upgraded with the addition of headlights and the capacity to accommodate up to four players simultaneously. Other added elements include GPS locators, which can now be 3D printed and crafted in the inventory, and a reduced ammo difficulty level option.

The developers have incorporated a new large trap, a ‘returning creepy enemy’ set to appear post endgame, as well as new vocal announcements in certain bunkers. In addition, characters Virginia and Kelvin have been given the ability to swim if they find themselves in deep enough water.

In terms of balancing, enemy raids will now occur less frequently based on the number of regular or ‘creepy’ enemies a player has defeated. This will increase over time unless more enemies are eliminated. Defensive walls are now able to withstand four times as much damage and the health of the special glowing puffies has been decreased.

A number of improvements to the gameplay experience have also been introduced in Patch 08. These include optimized animations for entering and exiting golf carts, changes to the behavior of animals such as the moose and turtles, and various fixes for bugs that could affect enemy search parties and endgame boss battles.

Aesthetic improvements are also noticeable, with berries on blueberry bushes now deforming with the bush, and moss and basalt rock in caves now optimized for better viewing.

The game’s servers have also seen a major overhaul, with improved server browser filtering, support for IP address searches, and the ability to refresh recently played dedicated servers first to improve response times.

The patch also fixes various gameplay issues, such as players being able to add items to the cooking pot while it’s boiling clean water, a bug with the Crossbow’s reload and idle animation, and problems with storage LODs not activating until the player is near them.

Audio enhancements have also been made, such as the addition of SFX when placing electric wires and solar panels, the tuning of rifle and flare audio distances, and improved cave entrance audio.

As always, the developers invite players to share their experiences with these changes on the Discussions area of the Community Hub. They are particularly interested in feedback regarding changes to enemy balance.
