The Forest was one of the hottest co-op games to release in the last two decades, dominating streams and content creation all the way until the sequel, Sons of the Forest, released in the spring of 2023. Now, the game has received its largest patch yet with the seventh update, bringing a new end-game boss battle, drivable golf carts, animal trophies, frogs, and a lot more.

This update is definitely one of the larger ones, allowing players to take on a new endgame boss and cutscene. This should produce a larger sense of finality to the end of the game before players are able to come back and continue trying to survive on the island with the knowledge that they now have. Players will able to build and thrive together on Dedicated Servers that SotF now supports.

Endnight Games is also adding further functionality to help players get across the island faster, with drivable golf carts being added to the game. The developer doesn’t state where to find them, but they’ll likely be in areas around the laboratories since that’s where the people would’ve used them. If you need to get through the new mutants, you can use the rifle that’s found in one of the caves.

There were also other major features added like:

  • Decorative frogs that sit on lily pads and croak
  • Players can cut off animal heads and hang them on walls
  • Improvement to stone structures’ detached placement and a new holder structure
  • Window shutters to block and allow sun into your building
  • Updated biome on the east side of the map featuring more water locations and cannibal structures
  • Water is now either dirty or clean depending on the source

There is also a wide range of quality-of-life improvements that can be seen on the game’s update page on Steam, but most of them are things that make sense within the context of the game like cannibal clothes burning alongside a corpse in the snowy area of the map.
