In a recent tweet, Jez Corden, Managing Editor at Windows Central, shared that Sony has reportedly landed a deal with Konami for exclusivity to Silent Hill, Metal Gear, and possibly a new Castlevania game. Corden’s tweet came in response to a rumor by Shpeshal Nick, stating that a Metal Gear Solid 3 Remake might be featured at an upcoming PlayStation showcase with some level of exclusivity attached.
When asked about the nature of the exclusivity, whether permanent or timed, Corden replied that he had heard “timed,” but noted that timed exclusivity for PlayStation often translates to “never Xbox.”
These rumors align with other information circulating about the games. VGC’s Andy Robinson mentioned that a remake of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater is planned for 2024. In addition, Robinson tweeted that re-releases or remasters of other Metal Gear Solid titles are still being considered.
Speculation about a Metal Gear Solid franchise revival and a new Castlevania game has been ongoing for a while now. Similar to the now-confirmed Silent Hill remake, Konami seems to be taking its time with announcements.
The remake of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater is allegedly intended to gauge interest in potential new installments in the stealth-oriented franchise, which has been inactive since the 2018 spin-off game, Metal Gear Survive. Before that, the most recent primary game in the series was Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. Series mastermind Hideo Kojima parted ways with Konami after completing The Phantom Pain, subsequently founding his own studio and developing Death Stranding.
It remains unclear whether Konami has been in contact with Hideo Kojima regarding these reported remakes and remasters.
