Splatoon 3, the hit sequel to Nintendo’s classic friendly shooter, has finally announced when the first Big Run will roll out and what rewards to expect. The event will be available from 4 PM pacific time on December 9th, 2022, through 4 PM pacific on December 11th, 2022. Here’s the reveal from Nintendo with an obligatory wink to Jaws:

Splatoon 3 has been another remarkable success for the series, and it also happens to be the most accessible yet thanks to an expansion of content. Traditionally a simple multiplayer shooter, the latest Splatoon provides a better variety of gameplay.

Shortly following a Pokémon-themed Splatfest to celebrate the launch of Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, the Big Run event will bring a much-needed cooperative mode. According to the devs, players should only expect Big Runs to be patched in “every few months”:

Also, a follow-up tweet in the same conversation added that players will be rewarded with a special decoration. The “strongest performers” will receive something even more.

The Wahoo World stage that will be hosting the new mode is pretty divisive. In fact, most fans responded to today’s announcement with disdain. There’s a lot of frustration with the notorious level design.

But the limited time mode still has potential, and it does offer a different way to play the game for newcomers who may become bored with the core modes. Many AAA titles are convinced that cosmetics alone are enough to be considered “content”.

Splatoon 3 will launch the brand-new “Chill Season” very soon. While a recent trailer teased it for December 1st, Splatoon’s Twitter feed has announced it will launch on November 30th, 2022, at 4 PM pacific time:
