Splatoon 3 finally has a release date. Although originally believed to be coming this summer, today’s trailer confirms the official release date for Splatoon 3 to be September 9th, 2022.

The trailer also gives us a look at the game’s staple Turf War game mode along with a brand new map called Eeltail Alley. Just like previous entries in the series, Splatoon 3 will mainly feature a 4v4 co-op competitive shooter mode where the goal is to paint the map a particular color.

Though little has changed with Splatoon’s gameplay, the multiplayer experience promises to be improved, offering players a much smoother time.

In addition to Turf War, Splatoon 3 will also feature Salmon Run, which is the game’s take on the cooperative horde survival game mode. A single-player campaign is also included, which is far expanded on compared to previous entries.

According to Nintendo, the Splatoon 3 single player will have players “join Agent 3 in a fight against the unruly Octarians and discover the secrets of a mysterious place called Alterna and the Fuzzy Ooze.”

With the recent announcement that the Legend of Zelda: Breath of The Wild sequel will be delayed to 2023, Splatoon 3 will most likely be one of Nintendo’s largest holiday releases. It’s not all delays for Nintendo this year however, as Xenoblade Chronicles 3 recently had its release date pushed up from September to July.

Splatoon 3 will release on the Nintendo switch on 9/9/2022. It’s currently unclear if we’ll see the squid kids on any other console, but it’s very likely to be a Nintendo exclusive. You can view the trailer for Splatoon 3 below.
