Splatoon 3 has just revealed that that next Splatfest will feature a crossover with The Legend of Zelda, in celebration of the upcoming sequel The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. The Splatfest is scheduled to begin on May 5th, 2023, at 5 PM pacific. It will run through the weekend as usual, until May 7th, 2023.
Fans will have to choose between Power, Wisdom, and Courage for the Splatfest. Here’s the full announcement from the NA Splatoon Twitter feed:
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom recently made a major impression on fans with the final pre-launch trailer, which was released just yesterday. Nintendo revealed more in those few glimpses than all of the previous trailers combined, including some of Link’s newest powers in action, glorious cinematics, and more.
So, interest has been through the roof, and it seems Nintendo has meticulously capitalized on that. This event may even drum up more hype than the Pokémon Scarlet and Violet Splatfest from last October. Despite the immense popularity of that franchise, and the adorable starters to select, the new versions were already quite divisive.
Splatoon has smartly incorporated visuals and themes from The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. Today’s thread included follow-up tweets revealing a new Triforce-themed Turf War stage, which will be “unique to this Splatfest”.
In addition to that cleverly designed stage, it also marks the return of Shifty Stations. That might have been just as compelling for longtime fans, since Shifty Stations go back to Splatoon 2 and are quite rare. These stages emphasize movement, both from the players and the stage itself. It isn’t so much nostalgia bait as a triumphant comeback.
