Splatoon has officially revealed that a Pokémon Scarlet and Violet-themed splatfest event is scheduled for 4 PM pacific time on November 11th, 2022. The splatfest will briefly run through November 13th, 4 PM pacific time. The featured teams will be inspired by starter Pokémon types:

Splatfests in Splatoon 3 added an extra team to these special competitions, making it a perfect fit to introduce Pokémon’s iconic starter types.

For those who are new to Splatoon, splatfests allow players to join causes and battle for them, aiming to help a particular side gain the most victories. The cause can be totally random. For example, the latest splatfest asked players to fight for what they would bring to a deserted island, between September 23rd and September 25th.

The art design of today’s promo includes cutout images of the newest starters, and the new splatfest rolls out just a week before the next Pokémon games launch, so this is definitely a fun way to celebrate the latest versions.

Although fans were pleased with the Pokémon tie-in, many quickly became concerned about the prospect of Splatoon quietly skipping an October splatfest. The language of Splatoon’s post was carefully noted for using the phrase “next Splatfest”, suggesting that October wouldn’t have one at all.

Which is unfortunate, because Halloween has always been a perfect opportunity for splatfests. Some are also worried that splatfests won’t be as frequent as expected overall. If they roll out every other month, some key holidays and other events could be missed.

Splatoon 3 has largely received positive reviews from newcomers and longtime fans alike. Despite the nod to Pokémon, casually overstepping Splatoween would be a serious mistake. It’s a beloved event that’s been held multiple times before. Hopefully, the devs will speak up soon about their post.
