Foamstars, the online co-op shooter released by Square Enix, has been experiencing ongoing matchmaking problems since it launched on February 6, 2024. Despite an apology from the developer and plans for fixes in an upcoming patch, players are still waiting for a definite solution to the main matchmaking issues. Matchmaking issues are the opposite of what you want when your player base is low.

In a blog post, Foamstars producer Kosuke Okatani started by thanking players and then acknowledged the issue. He apologized for the matchmaking errors and said the team was working to resolve it. However, Okatani did mention that they were also working on “other important issues” that he did not elaborate on.

The producer did not provide a timeline or specific fix for the matchmaking issues, which probably made Foamstars players even more disappointed. This update mainly deals with adding penalties for players who purposefully leave matches or go idle during play. These penalties will involve temporary bans from matchmaking. Also, the update tackles spawn camping problems on the Radiant Rhythms Gardens map, fixes bugs connected to the character Chloe Noir, and addresses a crash issue specific to PlayStation 4.

Square Enix thanked the players for their support and gave a sneak peek at Season 4, including a new map and a hololive collaboration skin. These additions are expected to launch in mid-May and excite players. However, while the announcement mentioned patch fixes and future content, the ongoing issue of broken matchmaking has yet to be resolved. Many players will likely wait for Square Enix to address the core matchmaking errors before fully committing to Foamstars again.
