Starcraft 3 rumored to be in development

One user on Reddit thinks that a journalist might have let slip the possibility of Starcraft 3.

Starcraft is one of Blizzard’s most popular franchises, second only to Warcraft, with two games released so far. However, during an AMA (ask-me-anything) on Twitter, the managing editor of Windows Central seemed to imply that Starcraft 3 was very much in development, stating that he knew something when a fan asked.

This occurred last week and it seems that no one seemed to notice, but Windows Central Managing Editor Jez Corden was asked if he thought Xbox had any interest in rebooting Starcraft, at which point he states, “Msft won’t need to revive Starcraft.” In response, someone else asks, “Star Craft 3?” to which he replies “Yep,” before the user asks, “You know anything?”, to which he gives the same response.

This conversation is the tiniest of breadcrumbs, but Corden is in a pretty substantial position with Microsoft as it looks to finalize its acquisition of Activision Blizzard. It’s far from any real confirmation, but with the success of the franchise, it makes sense that Blizzard would seek to create a new entry or reboot the franchise eventually.

The interaction was documented by u/SharkyIzrod on Reddit where they contemplate what this conversation means and Corden’s definitive answers. This user is also taking the time to consider what the next entry could be, whether that’s another AAA RTS or a spin-off into another genre. The users in the comments are quick to point out that Corden answered affirmatively for Starcraft 3.

As is standard, we’ll need to wait for official confirmation from Blizzard about the future of the Starcraft franchise.
