The recently launched demo for Shift Up’s upcoming action RPG, Stellar Blade, has been a big hit. Data from Ampere Analysis indicates that the Stellar Blade demo reached a peak of 690,000 daily active users (DAU), surpassing the performance of the demo for Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, another highly anticipated PlayStation 5 exclusive, which reportedly saw a peak DAU of 380,000.
As found by Gameworldobserver, this is a great performance for the demo. Some predict that the game could attract over 4 million daily active users once released. However, that’s based on this demo being compared to FFVII Rebirth’s demo, which isn’t a good indication. People normally play demos when they’re not sure of a game or want a taste. Final Fantasy VII Rebirth players normally didn’t want spoilers, which a demo provides. So you can’t base it on that.
Since Stellar Blade is a new IP, the transition rate from demo players to full-game purchasers is much less certain than that of a well-established franchise like Final Fantasy. Shift Up mentioned that some people had already played for over 50 hours of the demo. That’s a big number and may lead to burnout before release. However, Stellar Blade is releasing at a time with little competition, so we may see it do well just because of that.
Stellar Blade is scheduled for release on April 26th as a PlayStation 5 exclusive, which may hurt its numbers. Although the demo’s performance looks promising, it doesn’t guarantee sales figures. The reception of the full game launch will determine Stellar Blade’s success and how it compares to other major titles in the action RPG genre.
