Stellar Blade confirms Boss Challenge mode, which seems to be the most difficult addition yet.

Developer Shift Up’s Stellar Blade will soon introduce a new “Boss Challenge” mode, adding a much more difficult test for players. Game director Hyung-Tae Kim promises relentless consecutive battles against bosses to challenge even the most seasoned players. It’s a mode you’ve likely heard of before.

While we don’t know the exact format of Stellar Blade’s Boss Challenge mode yet, it seems it will be similar to boss rush modes seen in games like Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. This means players can expect intense sequences of boss fights that test their combat skills. Specifics such as the number of bosses in each run or whether players can heal between fights are still unknown.

In a recent interview with Nate (translated via Google by GR), Kim discussed Shift Up’s development philosophy. He likened the studio to a baseball player aiming to create games that resonate with gamers. This reflects the studio’s commitment to delivering action-packed experiences, as seen in Stellar Blade. Kim also acknowledged the diverse gaming landscape, stating that there is space for studios like Shift Up to cater to players seeking intense, combat-driven titles.

The introduction of the Boss Challenge mode follows the successful launch of Stellar Blade. The game’s day-one update brought in a New Game Plus feature and new unlockable outfits for the main character, Eve. No plans are confirmed for more DLC or free updates after the Boss Challenge mode. This indicates that the new mode could be the next significant content addition for fans to anticipate, although its release date is currently unknown.

We can assume that it’s like a mode where once you beat one boss, the next one comes out. You’ll likely need to beat as many bosses as you can. This will either be done in a never-ending slog or under a time limit. Either way, it would likely be a big challenge.
