The Cosmic Wheel Sisterhood, an upcoming narrative adventure with Tarot-style deckbuilding from developer Deconstructeam and publisher Devolver Digital, will officially launch on August 16th, 2023. It will be available on the Nintendo Switch and PC, and Steam has a playable demo out now.

A demo was recently showcased at Steam Next Fest last month, and the devs also broke down the Tarot-inspired deckbuilding mechanics in an overview trailer from May. You can watch today’s new release date trailer on the Devolver Digital YouTube channel:

Today’s trailer offers even more footage that blends ordinary life with the psychedelic. However, a lot more dialogue has been revealed, including the sort of questions that players will face.

The protagonist, Fortuna, has the opportunity to shape the story with each choice, but also their relationships. This is achieved through arcane deckbuilding, where the impressive freedom of the game’s customizable divination cards is used to steer everything.

It’s a clever twist on the tired deckbuilding genre, and the official Steam page mentions that the story will explore “themes of identity, community, and personal responsibility”. Despite all of the fantasy, the devs seem determined to discuss serious issues.

It’s an ambitious game, but the devs should feel very confident. Their previous releases include The Red Strings Club, Gods Will Be Watching, and Essays on Empathy.

All of these titles delicately and masterfully confront the human condition, with an honest and relatable tone that never feels pretentious. The dialogue in today’s trailer hints that trend will continue in The Cosmic Wheel Sisterhood, with casual and accessible language.

There’s still no word from the devs about support for other platforms, but it’s sure to thrive on PC, and benefit from mobile Switch gaming.
