Developer Jukai Studio and publisher Versus Evil unveiled new details about the third-person action horror game, Stray Souls, during the recent ID@Xbox Showcase. Adding to the excitement, the developers announced that renowned composer Akira Yamaoka, famous for his work on the Silent Hill series, will be a guest composer for Stray Souls.
Today, Jukai Studio shed light on the creative process behind Stray Souls. Drawing inspiration from classic horror games, the team sought to capture the essence that made those titles beloved and unforgettable. While they extensively discussed various favorites, the Silent Hill franchise unanimously claimed the top spot on everyone’s list.
To achieve this vision, Jukai Studio placed great emphasis on exceptional audio, enlisting the legendary Akira Yamaoka, whose work on the Silent Hill series is undeniably iconic. Collaborating with veteran indie composer Pete Wicher, the team crafted a soundtrack that fills them with immense pride and undoubtedly resonates with players. The latest trailer of Stray Souls showcased during the ID@Xbox Showcase event featured the haunting melodies of Akira Yamaoka’s original track, “Splintered Minds.”
Stray Souls immerses players in a world of nightmares inspired by the classics of the horror genre. The game challenges players to fight terrifying creatures, solve mind-bending puzzles, and unravel a horrid family secret. Set in the haunted town of Aspen Falls, players will take on the role of Daniel, an average teenager whose life takes an unexpected turn after inheriting his estranged grandmother’s home and meeting a mysterious woman with intimate knowledge about his family, the house, and its shocking connection to his past.
Beyond its stunning visuals created with Unreal Engine 5 and its exceptional soundtrack, Stray Souls offer an exciting gameplay experience with soulslike precision, putting a fresh twist into the modern action-horror genre. Additionally, the game features randomized systems that ensure each playthrough is unique, with unpredictable enemy encounters, item placements, changing weather conditions, and unexplained phenomena occurring in different locations.
