Versus Evil and Jukai Studio have prepared a thrilling Halloween release as they recently announced that the upcoming psychological action-horror game, Stray Souls, is set to launch on October 25. The game will be available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC on launch day, priced at $29.99.
Stray Souls draws heavy inspiration from the beloved atmospheric third-person, action-horror franchise, Silent Hill. In this game, players will explore Aspen Falls, a haunted town filled with gruesome enemy encounters, epic bosses, and complex puzzles. Players will take on the role of Daniel, an average teenager whose life significantly changed after inheriting the home of his estranged grandmother and meeting a mysterious woman with intimate knowledge about his family, the house, and its shocking connection to his past.
In a notable announcement in July 2023, Jukai Studio revealed their ambitious plans to elevate Stray Souls even further by bringing legendary composer Akira Yamaoka on board as guest composer. Yamaoka, renowned for his work on the Silent Hill series, is collaborating with veteran indie composer Pete Wicher to enhance Stray Souls‘ immersive and haunting atmosphere through exceptional musical compositions.
While Stray Souls remains heavily rooted in Silent Hill‘s thematic legacy, it also introduces a fresh twist to the modern action-horror genre with action RPG gameplay elements that offer soulslike precision.
Although Stray Souls still has some room for improvement, particularly in terms of its character design which portrays awkward facial expressions at times, its engaging narrative, atmospheric setting, and formidable adversaries can greatly contribute to its overall appeal. In the latest trailer, fans get to see more of these enemy encounters, but the finer details of the soulslike combat mechanics are still under wraps.
For eager fans who want to be notified as soon as Stray Souls is released, the game is now available to wishlist on Steam, Xbox Store, and PlayStation Store.
