Summer Game Fest Date

E3 is out of the cards for this year, as ESA cancelled both the digital and in-person shows, but we will still have gaming showcases scheduled during this time. The Summer Game Fest, promising to bring the old E3 excitement, now has an official date, along with time, capacity, and all the details regarding where you can catch up on the latest game reveals.

Summer Game Fest’s Founder and Host, Geoff Keighley, announced first on his Twitter about this year’s showcase. The showcase is said to be available in both physical and digital capacities, which wasn’t possible for the last couple of years due to the pandemic. First beginning on June 9th, the multiple-day showcase can be streamed at home or in select IMAX theatres.

Participants for this year’s showcase are pretty much the same as last year. All the big industry publishers will be present, as well as indie developers. The presenters include the likes of PlayStation, Xbox, Activision, EA, and Ubisoft. Some of them have already announced the dates and times for their events. Speaking about the scope of the show this year, Geoff said:

“With #SummerGameFest we are building a next-generation global event — decentralized physical events for the community in IMAX, big showcases from us + partners, play at home content, and much more!

This is the future and it feels good….we are just getting started!”

So far, only two events have been confirmed, Xbox & Bethesda Games Showcase and Tribeca Games Spotlight. They are both scheduled for June 12 and June 10, respectively. The only other thing we’ve learned is Xbox’s showcase is reportedly going to be around 90 minutes in length.

The Summer Game Fest isn’t the only thing that’ll be broadcasted at IMAX theatres. So will this year’s The Video Games Awards, which is currently scheduled for December. If you do not plan on making a tiring trip to the theatre and don’t need the “extra immersion,” it will be streaming live on digital platforms like YouTube and Twitch on Thursday, June 9, at 11a PT / 2p ET / 6p GMT.
