Nintendo is getting ready to launch the first new entry into the Super Mario Bros. franchise since Odyssey with Wonder set to release on Oct. 20. However, two months ahead of release, one journalist has found text on the website that states that online play could be announced for the title at a later date.

This information comes from Japanese gaming journalist Genki_JPN, who noticed the extra line on the Nintendo store and translated it into English. According to the posting, “Details of online play will be announced,” which has led to speculation of co-op play online in addition to the previously announced local play.

Super Mario Bros. Wonder was only announced two months ago to the day, with players excited about the next main Mario title. With the title expected in another two months, there could be some news or a new trailer revealed at some point during the Gamescom showcase this week. Nintendo could also randomly announce its own Direct with news at some point as well, but this is just speculation.

With Wonder already prioritizing multiplayer locally, it makes sense that it would also allow players to enjoy the game with friends across the world. It would be a great boon to the title and further serve the Nintendo Switch’s multiplayer focus.
