Nintendo Switch Online has just added three new titles to their online library from the SEGA Genesis. These are Light Crusader, Super Fantasy Zone, and Alien Soldier. While they might not all be known to everyone, these are some old school classics that will give SEGA Genesis players a nostalgia kick.

Light Crusader

Light Crusader is an isometric action-adventure that was developed by Treasure. Players have complete freedom to move around, jump, and push objects. They can perform simple sword slashes, use four magical elements in various combinations, and use various items to achieve various effects. For the most part, the gameplay is a mix of action, puzzle solving, and platforming, with the usual role-playing staples like towns, shops, equipment, and spellcasting thrown in for good measure. Sir David is controlled by the player as he travels through various dungeons, fighting creatures such as “slime,” solving puzzles to advance, and rescuing those who have been kidnapped. Instead of mazes or labyrinths, an auto-map feature keeps the focus on action and single-room puzzles.

Super Fantasy Zone

Opa-Opa fights to avenge his father, O-papa, who was killed defending the Fantasy Zone against the invading Dark Menon. Opa-Opa must clear the Fantasy Zone of the Dark Menon’s minions in order to restore peace.

Alien Soldier

Alien Soldier is a side-scrolling shooter in which the player controls Epsilon-Eagle, the main character, through 25 stages and 26 bosses. The game’s gameplay has been compared to Gunstar Heroes, but it places a greater emphasis on boss fights and lacks a two-player mode. The stages are short and filled with weak enemies to provide a break from the more difficult boss battles. The game has two levels of difficulty: “supereasy” and “superhard.” On the hard setting, enemies are only slightly more difficult; however, unlike the easy mode, there are no passwords or unlimited continues.
