Take-Two files trademarks for ‘Project Ethos’ in US and UK

Project Ethos could be anything, but the trademark gives us some clues, which we detail in this article.

Take-Two Interactive, the parent company of 2K and Rockstar, has trademarked a working title ‘Project Ethos.’ The trademark was filed under Take-Two Interactive Software Inc. so it appears to be official, and it’s through the address for Take Two: 110 West 44th Street New York, NEW YORK UNITED STATES 10036.

Take-Two has trademarked Project Ethos in both the UK and US, providing the title in capitals as the imagePROJECT ETHOS. The description of the trademark is for video games among other things, so we know it’s most likely a brand new IP. Rockstar is busy making a new Grand Theft Auto and based on the state of the game after the big leak, we know the game is far past the trademark phase.

Some may think it has something to do with the long-rumored Project Medieval, but I highly doubt it. There are also assumptions that this has something to do with Rockstar, which I doubt too. As I stated above, there’s really little chance that Rockstar isn’t putting all of its resources into the next GTA. The leak would definitely have put them in a defensive position, so they’d need to come together to speed up progress or make changes.

Trademarking is also what you’d do in the Pre-Production phase, so it’d likely be a publisher that isn’t wrapped up in something huge. This leaves 2K Games, the other major publisher under Take-Two Interactive. The name Ethos could have something to do with it, but sometimes project names are just random words, so we wouldn’t dig too deeply into them.

We’d just be grasping at straws to make a guess at what it is at this point, but I’m going out on a limb and saying another XCOM or alien-type game. However, based on where we got this information (ResetEra), it’s clear that there are many guesses currently.

For now, the only thing we can go off of is this trademark, and it doesn’t give us much. If more comes, we’ll be sure to release more news on it.
