Developer and publisher Techland Games has just revealed that an upcoming livestream will reveal details about the future of the series, including “a few surprises”. The event is scheduled for January 31st, at 11 AM pacific time, and will be available to view on Techland’s Twitch account. Here is Techland’s full statement about the new livestream, celebrating Dying Light 2’s first anniversary:
The original Dying Light was an instant classic, bolstered by the simple and brilliant idea to add smooth parkour mechanics to the zombie survival genre.
It was a tremendous amount of freedom, which is rare for any genre. But it was especially noteworthy compared to most zombie games, which are often experienced on rails, as in Dead Island or Left 4 Dead (including all of its clones). The first-person approach also kept everything immersive, and really agreed with such a movement-based game.
Now, Dying Light 2 has built on all of the strengths of its predecessor and elaborated in creative new ways. The open world has interesting terrain and obstacles to traverse, and the steep influence of the player’s decisions added lots of heft and intrigue.
Both games dare players to push their luck, explore, and work together in new ways. That innovation raises high expectations for Techland and their upcoming livestream, which intends to discuss the entire future of the franchise.
It’s unclear if the surprises will involve more DLC, spin-offs or sequels. However, it’s only been a year since Dying Light 2 launched. The surprises could also simply refer to a few special guests. Ideally, in honor of Dying Light 2’s success, Techland Games will at least reveal some of their more immediate plans.
