It’s been a great year for fighting games, with titles like Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat both releasing main entries this year as well as leaks from Tekken 8 appearing online as recently as Aug. 21. While this information gained a lot of hype on social media due to its presumed accuracy, Tekken series director Katsuhiro Harada has stated that the information revealed is incorrect.

Harada addressed the “minor information” leaks on his Twitter account, stating that it’s old information that has either changed or no longer exists. The Tekken veteran also states that the organization that the leaks came from was responsible for the localization and debugging of the title. According to him, the next leak will identify the responsible party as well as set up systems for the future.

Previous leaks from the title were summarized in a Reddit post showing different character portraits, move lists, and unique intros for newcomers. There was also data mining that may have implied that the series icon Kazuya may be planned or show up in Tekken 8 at some point. Harada was brief in his comment on the leaks, so it’s unclear what level of these are inaccurate or just wrong.

Harada makes it clear that they are going after the leakers and ensuring that what they send out in the future will be further protected internally and externally. This follows similar sentiments from other developers that have seemingly been coming down harder on those who break their NDAs and other contracts meant to keep in-development projects in progress.
