Tekken 8, the highly anticipated sequel in the long-running fighting series from Bandai Namco Entertainment, will officially begin a Closed Network Test on July 21st, 2023. This confirms the beta rumors from last week. According to a new tweet from the official Tekken feed, there’ll be 16 characters and 5 stages to compete with.
Sign-ups for the test are available now, and they end on June 27th. The first week of testing will only include the PlayStation 5, from July 21st to the 24th. However, from July 28th to July 31st, the testing will add both Xbox Series X|S and Steam platforms.
Tekken 8 currently doesn’t have a release window. Like the test, the full release will be available on PC via Steam, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, with no word on other platforms. You can watch today’s new Closed Network Test trailer on the Bandai Namco YouTube channel:
Aside from details about the titular test, today’s trailer doesn’t reveal anything new. However, Tekken 8 has been regularly releasing new character trailers, such as the Bryan Fury teaser from last week. And fortunately, fans have been relatively positive about all of the additions, reworks, and visuals.
The Tekken franchise has been around for so long, it has built up a remarkably dense history. This creates memorable characters that feel consistent and have an opportunity to grow. That remains a large part of its appeal, as the series competes with other titles.
The Mortal Kombat 1 gameplay trailer was a monumental highlight at SGF 2023, and Street Fighter 6 only just released last week to universal praise. Ideally, Tekken 8 will find as much success, and hopefully the tests provide good insight about its trajectory.
