Tekken 8, the next highly anticipated sequel in the hit fighting franchise from developer and publisher Bandai Namco, has just released all-new gameplay footage featuring Paul Phoenix. The trailer includes some nods to the upcoming mechanics fans should expect.

Tekken remains a beloved franchise thanks to its iconic characters and narrative. But it also continues to evolve with the times, and today’s new trailer should build just as much hype as Jin Kazama or Kazuya.

As amusing as it is to see the fans respond to Paul’s new haircut, which was always a little out there, the actual gameplay looks very promising. Paul has famously aimed to be “the toughest fighter in the universe”, and the new trailer does good job of emphasizing his sheer force. The animation looks solid for each movement.

Sadly, Paul’s mechanics just don’t seem as interesting compared to Tekken’s new blood. But he’s been around since the original, so fan favorites will always be a welcome return. And Paul may still have some surprises in store.
