The Expanse: A Telltale Series, the next highly anticipated entry in story-driven Telltale Games titles, has just released another ten minutes of gameplay footage. This follows the new IGN Fan Fest trailer that premiered over the weekend.
Today’s new gameplay showcase includes plenty of commentary from Telltale Games’ Zak Garriss and Deck Nine’s Stephan Frost. Despite lots of behind-the-scenes info, a release date still hasn’t been confirmed.
The Expanse: A Telltale Series is expected to release “very soon” according to a statement in today’s video, though the description suggests that it should roll out in summer 2023. You can review all the new gameplay on Telltale Games’ official YouTube channel here:
Telltale Games has successfully created some of the most satisfying choose your own adventure titles in any medium, particularly renowned for its work on The Walking Dead. Even those who were already skeptics of the show early on could still find praise for the Telltale series. It ultimately transcended the genre, and even the medium.
The Walking Dead’s quick time choices were more compelling and challenging, because they were character-driven. As a result, impacting the story became priority, and even action-based events became more significant.
Fortunately, The Expanse offers more than enough lore to elaborate on. The devs have smartly chosen a point in time that will give them more narrative freedom.
Some of the dev commentary today also explained how they plan on using the new setting to their advantage in creative ways. For example, discovering certain items will affect relationships and even endgames. This is one of the many ways The Expanse could help inspire the same kind of innovation that made Telltale Games such a force to be reckoned with early on.
