The Expanse: A Telltale Series, an upcoming original narrative set in The Expanse’s universe from Deck Nine and Telltale Games, has released more cinematics and gameplay to elaborate on their behind-the-scenes process. In “Building The Belt”, the creatives discuss the authenticity of their Zero-G movement, and how environments will closely tie into gameplay and relationships.
The Expanse: A Telltale Series is slated to launch on July 27th, 2023. It will be available on PC, PlayStation and Xbox. You can watch today’s “Building The Belt” trailer on the Telltale Games YouTube channel:
Today’s new trailer didn’t reveal too much more about the gameplay itself than the dev commentary trailer from last February. But there are some nuggets of information and new glimpses of gameplay.
The first half of the trailer also dives deep into the Zero-G elements, and it teases some of the combat scenarios that fans should expect. There are quite a few stunts involving gunplay, and it’s fun to see how the devs had to adapt their process for such a unique setting.
All of the spacewalking footage looks absolutely gorgeous, emulating the same sense of scale and appreciation for space as the original series. The Zero-G looks quite convincing as characters and debris float around.
Most importantly, there are some comments about how the environments will encourage players to explore. Finding new areas and items don’t just improve relationships with characters, but also unlock key conversations, lore, and solutions to narrative obstacles.
A new example shows how discovering a cigar can lead to unique cinematics. Also, exploring new areas could trigger conversations about them. This will add replay value, as players return to visit new outcomes or learn more about the crew. And missing out on crucial answers to a problem could potentially result in disaster later on.
