There have been a lot of rumors and speculation about a Fallout TV series in development at Amazon, but little news has been confirmed by either Prime Video or Bethesda until today. As just announced, the new TV show titled Fallout will take fans on a unique adventure in Vault 33, which is located in Los Angeles, California.
Prime Video made the announcement on Twitter during Gamescom, with a screenshot showing Vault Boy in a jumpsuit with the number 33 emblazoned on it. The card says “Los Angeles” with a subtitle that reads “Where Dreams Come True.” While it makes sense there would be a Vault 33 in the franchise’s canon, it is likely just a new iteration of the premise that allows for a new California-based story.
There has been little revealed about the Fallout TV series outside of rumors and a short teaser that was released by Kilter Films and Bethesda that showed a stand-by screen from an older broadcast. Outside of that, this is the first information, and maybe official confirmation, that fans have gotten since the rumors began that a show was in development.
Update Aug. 23 at 7:43 a.m.: A new teaser was shown at Gamescom, although the video that was shared online is a little blurry, with Todd Howard being heard saying “they’re not putting this online.” The clip shows a few flashes of live-action characters in Fallout-like armor.
Since Vault 33 isn’t known in the canon of the franchise, it gives the writers at Bethesda and Kilter the opportunity to tell a unique story that still carries the semi-serious themes of the game. Los Angeles is a large city, so it will be interesting to see how the show explores such a busy area.
