Developer Naughty Dog has just announced that The Last of Us video game is getting a themed area for Universal Studios’ Halloween Horror Nights this year. According to the official event site, it will feature both Joel and Ellie, as you make your way through Pittsburgh while avoiding Clickers, Hunters and more.
The event will take place on select nights from September 7th through October 31st, 2023. Guests won’t be allowed to wear their own costumes or masks to the event. You can watch a brief cinematic teaser for the new Last of Us area on the official Halloween Horror Nights YouTube channel:
The Last of Us has been a consistent phenomenon since the original game first launched a decade ago. It has renewed interest with the sequel, Part 1 remake, and introduced even more casual fans thanks to the monumental success of the TV series.
There’s also a multiplayer game in the works, although the project was recently delayed in May, remaining vague and citing the need for more time. Either way, The Last of Us’ relatable heroes, emotional struggles and compelling commentary that delves far beyond the nature of humanity, have continued to resonate.
Today’s teaser for the Halloween Horror Nights event is a little corny, partly due to its performances and blunt approach, literally blending a player directly into the world of The Last of Us. However, the announcement should be more than enough.
The Last of Us is a grim, terrifying world that would be a perfect fit for the event because it focuses on suspense, which justifies the scares and makes them genuinely effective. It has the potential to outshine some of the more obvious, jumpy events of past years, especially if they wield the signature Clicker sound effects.
