A new patch for The Last of Us Part I, the award-winning game featuring the emotional journey of Joel and Ellie in a post-apocalyptic world, is now live on PlayStation 5. This update brings improvements and fixes for combat, accessibility, and additional content, including new HBO t-shirt cosmetics for Ellie.
The update includes numerous gameplay enhancements, such as adjusted aim sensitivity, more consistent companion character actions during combat, and various weapon adjustments. Melee attacks have been refined, with two-handed melee weapons now killing stunned enemies and a longer stagger time for Infected enemies when meleeing while sprinting. Additionally, shotguns and rifles now rechamber faster after being unholstered, and melee attacks that send enemies to their knees can combo into finishers.

The patch also addresses multiple bugs, such as fixing an issue where drawing the bow reduced the player’s accuracy with other weapons and correcting the accuracy of the El Diablo pistol when using its scope. Players will no longer automatically succeed when machete-wielding enemies perform evasive counterattacks, and Infected enemies will no longer enter the ‘beg for life’ state.
Visual improvements and adjustments have been made throughout the game, along with fixes to subtitles, UI text, and Screen Reader lines. Several checkpoints have been adjusted, and the Grounded Difficulty mode now features reduced turret truck accuracy. In Permadeath Mode, the deer hunt is no longer considered a combat encounter.

Accessibility improvements include better Navigation Assistance goal placement, corrected button prompts, and fixes to issues with High Contrast Mode and audio cues. The update also addresses various issues with in-game cutscenes and encounter-specific problems, such as the player getting stuck behind a door during the fight at the hydroelectric dam.
Finally, the patch introduces new HBO in-game t-shirt cosmetics for Ellie, adding another layer of customization for players to enjoy.

- [Brazilian Portuguese] Remastered and increased the audio quality for in-game voice lines
- Adjusted aim sensitivity from 1-10 to 1-100, with a lower minimum sensitivity
- Companion characters now throw bricks at enemies during combat more consistently
- Rifle weapons now use hit-scan instead of projectile physics to determine whether they hit an enemy
- Increased the pump shotgun’s base fire rate
- Melee and Fire may now be bound to the same button in Customize Controls (Options > Controls > Customize Controls)
- Speedrun Mode timer now pauses during black screen fades
- Melee attacks using a two-handed melee weapon now kill stunned enemies

- Player character can move sooner after finishing a melee swing
- Companion characters rescue the player character from enemy grapples more consistently

- Fixed an issue where nail bombs may be retrieved after detonating
- Director’s Commentary now plays during the final credits
- Rechambering a weapon now registers as complete sooner, so the player won’t have to repeat the animation if interrupted
- Baseball bats now do the same damage against Clickers as other two-handed melee weapons
