Speculation regarding the development of a remastered version of Naughty Dog’s critically acclaimed post-apocalyptic action-adventure game, The Last of Us Part II, has been ignited once again. This resurgence of rumor stems from what appears to be a confirmation of the project on the LinkedIn profile of Naughty Dog’s Lead Outsource Artist.
Mark Pajarillo, who has been working as Naughty Dog’s Lead Outsource Artist since 2021, recently updated his LinkedIn profile with a noteworthy description of his new role. He stated that he is overseeing the production of all outsourced environment art assets, weapons, and interactive props for two iconic titles The Last of Us: Part One and The Last of Us 2: Remastered. This reference to the remastered edition has already been removed from his profile, but the revelation swiftly spread like wildfire across the internet.
It is worth noting that this is not the first time that a Naughty Dog team member has hinted at the development of The Last of Us Part II: Remastered. Back in July 2023, celebrated composer of The Last of Us series, Gustavo Santaolalla appeared on an episode of the Spanish Blender podcast, where he revealed that in a new version of the game, players will have the option to approach his in-game character and request songs for him to perform.
Since its initial release on the PlayStation 4 in 2020, The Last of Us Part II received universal acclaim, winning major awards from various prestigious game award ceremonies. This second installment not only builds upon the legacy of its predecessor but also introduces a new experience with expansive level designs and dynamic gameplay innovations.
While certain fans argue that it might be too early to create a remastered edition at this point, there are just as many excited fans eagerly looking forward to its revamped visuals and potential new additions. However, Naughty Dog has yet to issue an official statement confirming the existence of a remastered version of The Last of Us Part II.
