The Lord of the Rings: Gollum, an upcoming story-driven adventure from developer Daedalic Entertainment and publisher Nacon, has released a new pre-order trailer. The trailer features a variety of fan favorite characters, who appear to include Gandalf, Shelob, and even a fell beast. Fans also got a look at the Precious Edition contents, including special art and Elvish voice acting.
The Lord of the Rings: Gollum is set to launch on May 25th, 2023. It will be available on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox. There’s no release date for the Nintendo Switch, but a port is still expected “later on” according to today’s trailer description. You can watch the full pre-order trailer on the Nacon YouTube channel:
The addition of Elvish voiceover work is an outstanding gesture of goodwill for Tolkien fans. Language plays an extraordinary role in Tolkien’s work, further reinforcing Middle-earth’s remarkable authenticity with legitimate structures and cultural history.
Naturally, any modern attempt to emulate Tolkien’s dialogue will fall short. But Sindarin itself will be a welcome and worthwhile investment in this game, so the Precious Edition has justified its value with that feature alone. It was most unexpected, and even if fans become divided over the game’s visuals, it is clear the devs have some respect for the source material.
Today’s trailer shows quite a lot more gameplay than the actual extended showcase that was revealed last month. It grabs sequences that are probably from the late game, and puts all of the most familiar characters on display.
It seems the devs are determined to win over skeptics. They also spend a lot of time on accolades, but perhaps it can live up to the expectations set by that praise.
