EA is assembling a huge team to work on the next Battlefield game. The goal is to create a really good online multiplayer experience with some single-player parts. EA’s CEO, Andrew Wilson, is excited about the project and has already tried the game with the developers.
EA has made a major change to Battlefield, moving towards a live-service model. The move is inspired by the success of Apex Legends, with a focus on community feedback and regular updates to keep the game exciting for players. We saw this in a tweet from Geoff Keighley and EG while listening to the financial report.
Developers from the Dead Space series have joined forces with the existing teams at DICE, Criterion, and Ripple Effect Studios to bolster development efforts. This is a huge push on one game; surprisingly, these developers are known for their storytelling skills. You would expect gameplay-heavy developers, but apparently, EA wants to deliver compelling narratives in the next Battlefield.

The idea of a “connected” single-player experience is an intriguing possibility for Battlefield players. While multiplayer is obviously central, this hints at single-player content becoming more integrated with the wider Battlefield universe. This could mean story campaigns delving into various viewpoints within the game world or missions aimed at enriching the lore of Battlefield.
“Our teams have listened to the community, have learned valuable lessons, and are driving to the future,” said Wilson. “Motive, armed with cutting-edge Frostbite technology and compelling storytelling, is joining DICE, Criterion, and Ripple Effect to build a Battlefield universe across connected multiplayer and single-player experiences. This is the largest Battlefield team in franchise history… A few weeks ago, I was visiting with the teams and I couldn’t be more excited about what they showed and what we were able to play.”

This is a smart way to beat Call of Duty, who famously did not spend very long on the last campaign. Single-player may be the way to go, but obviously, they will focus on live-service parts. Apex Legends’ success is a prime example of how well EA can do live service, generating over $3.4 billion in revenue over its lifetime.
The future of Battlefield seems promising, with plans for a large and evolving online world. As more information becomes available, the possibility of a vast, interconnected experience featuring exciting multiplayer and captivating single-player components is likely to please fans of the popular shooter series.
