The Sims 4 has now reached more than 70 million players worldwide according to an EA Press Release. This makes it the most popular game in the 23-year history of The Sims franchise. Launched in 2014, The Sims 4 has served as a digital platform for millions of players to explore ideas, experiences, and versions of themselves without limits, both in-game and in real life.
The player base expanded significantly after the base game became free to download for new players in October 2022, resulting in over 16 million downloads and a 53-percent increase in average weekly users. Notably, 75-percent of new unique players are based outside of North America, with growth areas including Brazil, France, Germany, the United Kingdom, and Poland. These new players have eagerly engaged with the game’s extensive catalog of over 60 packs and kits.
User-generated content downloads from the gallery have also seen a remarkable increase since the base game became free. Over the past week alone, more than 7 million gallery downloads were recorded in-game. Phillip Ring, Executive Producer of The Sims 4, commented on this achievement: “It’s incredible to see how much our community has grown over the past eight years, and our players continue to inspire us with the countless ways they explore life in The Sims 4.” He added that the game serves as a creative outlet and the team continually strives to develop innovative gameplay content that allows players to embrace the chaos of self-discovery.
Maxis recently launched The Sims 4 Growing Together expansion pack, which marked the most successful expansion pack launch week in the game’s history. Released on March 16, 2023, it introduced highly requested gameplay features centered around family dynamics, new life stages, and milestones. Since the expansion pack’s release and the free base game update featuring the infant life stage, players have created over 8.6 million Sims infants, built 1.7 million new households in San Sequoia, and achieved 27.1 million milestones across all platforms – including 12.2 million infant milestones.
The Sims 4 Growing Together expansion pack focuses on strengthening family bonds, making friends or enemies, and discovering Sims’ truest selves. Key choices and milestones shape a Sim’s personality traits, and social dynamics evolve based on preferences, compatibility, and relationships with other Sims. Family ties become increasingly complex as Sims experience life together, leading to both drama and unity. Set in the bustling town of San Sequoia, the expansion pack offers an ideal environment for families to explore and grow.
