Total War: Warhammer III, the turn-based strategy hit from developers Creative Assembly and Feral Interactive, has confirmed last week’s rumors that Shadows of Change will arrive alongside Update 4.0 on August 31st, 2023. The official announcement came with a new cinematic trailer, featuring key characters and conflicts.
A new Steam post confirms that Shadows of Change will introduce four new legends, new units, new campaign mechanics and more. Further details are planned to “be revealed in the coming weeks”. This includes closer looks at Yuan Bo and Mother Ostankya.
Total War: Warhammer III is available now on PC. You can pre-order Shadows of Change now, and you can watch today’s announcement trailer for Shadows of Change on the Total War YouTube channel:
The visuals in today’s trailer were a little rough around the edges, but the trailer does warn you up front that the work is still in-progress. The central lore and camerawork still maintain the same sense of intrigue and scope that fans have come to expect, with epic battles and the spirit of change.
This is important for such a long-running franchise, promising to reinvigorate fans with new ideas. However, it’ll be more impressive if details emerge on how the gameplay will be impacted, especially with a gameplay trailer.
But it’s encouraging that Shadows of Change is joining Update 4.0 rather than later, and with release coming so soon, a gameplay trailer can probably be expected in the next couple of weeks.
According to the 12-month roadmap revealed in May, the game will add improvements like race updates, achievements, AI fixes and more. It also confirmed that Thrones of Decay will release in winter 2023, following Shadows of Change.
