Trackmania, the free to play soft reboot in the classic racing series from developer and publisher Ubisoft, will officially arrive on consoles and cloud platforms next Monday on May 15th, 2023. It will be available on Luna and current or last-gen consoles for Xbox and PlayStation users.
Trackmania originally launched in 2020 and is available on PC now. You can watch the full console release date trailer on the Ubisoft YouTube channel:
Today’s trailer for Trackmania is pretty straightforward, since there won’t be any new content that specifically coincides with the port. Instead, it more or less delivers the premise of the game again, for anyone who wasn’t already aware of the PC version. It’s a little underwhelming, but fair enough, given that PC players are a very distinguishable audience.
Trackmania is built on the creativity of its players, letting the community devise clever and unexpected tracks. This also makes Trackmania feel more like a party game, and stand out from the crowd of racing titles that often strive for immaculate authenticity.
So, it’s always been odd that Ubisoft implemented the paid subscription feature. The game thrives on expanding its fanbase, but also specifically hides the editor behind a paywall instead of just earnable content.
It remains subjective, but Standard is often still considered worthwhile, nonetheless. Because Trackmania will remain free to play when it hits consoles, paid subscriptions are very likely to continue as well.
The gameplay itself is just as satisfying as ever, thanks to its sense of freedom and momentum, as well as some pretty stunning visuals. It’s a nice gesture that Luna and last-gen consoles will also be supported, and it does invite a lot of newcomers.
