The Amazon.com Inc.-owned company, Twitch, is considering changing its Twitch Partner Program. The rumored changes revolve around how Twitch will pay its top streamers, hoping it would help boost its profits. As streaming, gaming, and content creation have exploded in popularity over the past few years; they’d like to make more profit over the long term.

However, there is the potential that such a change to more profit-driven strategies would also alienate some of its biggest streamers and content creators.

While it is still under consideration, the suggested changes would offer incentives for streamers to run more ads. The hope is that it will help reduce the proportion of subscription fees portioned out to Twitch’s biggest streamers. However, ads are something that many viewers are tired of seeing, and increased advertisements might be more harmful than they expect.

Twitch is also considering reducing the revenue percentage of channel subscriptions granted to the top streamers in its partnership program from 70% to 50%. This is a signification cut to a streamer’s revenue and could be problematic. Twitch may also create multiple partnership program tiers and set criteria on how to qualify for each one.

This may not be the best thing for streamers, as they would receive a hefty income cut. Twitch, however, is considering offering something that may entice some streamers looking to expand. Twitch may offer to release partners from exclusivity restrictions in exchange for the revenue reduction. This will allow streamers and content creators to stream on other platforms like YouTube or Facebook, which could be a way for streamers to earn additional income.

Amazon and Twitch are rumored to be still considering these changes, and they may either be implemented or abandoned after proper evaluation. Be sure to check out our Latest News section for more great content!
