We finally got confirmation of two of the titles Microsoft is sending to other consoles. Thanks to the Nintendo Direct Showcase today, two previously Xbox-exclusive titles, Grounded and Pentiment, are confirmed to be coming to the Nintendo Switch. This aligns with a rumor that named the four that should come.
Update: Confirmed four games are Grounded, Hi-Fi Rush, Peniment, and Sea of Thieves
Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer announced their plan to release four Xbox-exclusive games for PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch. The company didn’t reveal the titles, but The Verge mentioned that Hi-Fi Rush and Sea of Thieves are included. The Verge was right about Grounded and Pentiment, so they may be right about the last two.
With Grounded and Pentiment confirmed, attention is now turning to the remaining two titles. There’s speculation that Sea of Thieves, a popular multiplayer pirate adventure game, could be a strong possibility for the Switch, given its success on other platforms. Additionally, Hi-Fi Rush, a stylish rhythm action game, seems like a potential fit, in line with Nintendo’s focus on offering distinctive and captivating experiences.
This Nintendo Direct has shown us a lot. It’s important to point out that Microsoft hasn’t officially confirmed the last two titles. However, Spencer’s Xbox podcast comments suggest they might be revealed soon. Given what has been shared, it seems like there could be some exciting news on the horizon.
“These are games that originally launched on Xbox. They were Xbox-branded games and we want to see what happens, because going and doing the development work to bring them to new platforms is real work. We want to make sure that the return makes sense. We want to make sure the audience that’s there has an appetite, maybe they don’t.”
Phil Spencer
Phil Spencer, a key figure at Microsoft, thinks that exclusive games will become less important in the next ten years. He says they’re trying out new things to attract more people and make more money from their games and brand.
The reaction from fans has been mixed. For some reason, a lot of people like thinking of their games as exclusive, and that’s why they bought the console. That honestly doesn’t matter to me; if Sony and Microsoft can agree to share titles, then we all win. For now, we’ll have to keep an eye out for confirmation on the next two games coming to Nintendo.
