Skull and Bones will finally release its official gameplay reveal in a Ubisoft livestream, scheduled for July 7th at 11 AM pacific time. You’ll be able to watch the upcoming livestream on Ubisoft’s official YouTube channel.
Here’s the statement from Ubisoft’s Twitter feed, which includes a short teaser for the game:
The announcement officially confirms previous rumors about the early July gameplay reveal. This new teaser doesn’t include much, simply showing off a few beauty shots of some ships at sea, and concluding with the broadcast dates.
Skull and Bones is another take on pirates and naval battles. The setting has basically become its own sub-genre, fueling countless hits such as Sea of Thieves.
However, Ubisoft is well-known for their elaborate and detailed worlds in the Assassin’s Creed franchise, which even has spinoff titles that are used for academic purposes. It could be fun to traverse the Indian Ocean in an authentic way.
Aside from revealing some gameplay, the livestream is also expected to let Ubisoft explain how their take on piracy will be unique.
Players will become an infamous pirate, create a fleet and build their own empire. The game will include a great deal of resource management. This is an expected holdover from the Creed franchise, where accumulating various materials help players improve their weapons and more.
Fans will be treated to exclusive behind-the-scenes featurettes with the devs. Also, a pre-show is scheduled to begin fifteen minutes early at 10:45 AM pacific time. This will be “full of surprises” according to the current livestream description.
So far, fans are hoping that this game won’t simply be a clone of Assassin’s Creed IV Black Flag. Although that’s a beloved game, it would be disappointing to retread old material. Basically, the upcoming gameplay must declare why this game deserves to exist.
