After facing some delays and test sessions, Ubisoft has revealed the official launch details for their upcoming free-to-play arena shooter, XDefiant. The game is scheduled to launch on May 21st, 2024, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Ubisoft Connect. A six-week preseason will start on the release day so players can get a feel for the game.

The announcement Ubisoft released tells us a lot about what’s coming. Preseason launch will feature five playable factions: Echelon, Phantoms, Cleaners, Libertad, and Dedsec. Players will battle across 14 maps, including original locations and maps inspired by other Ubisoft titles. Some confirmed locations are Arena, Attica Heights, Dumbo, Echelon HQ, Emporium, Liberty, Mayday, Meltdown, Midway, Nudleplex, Pueblito, Showtime, Times Square, and Zoo.

At launch, XDefiant will have different ways to play: Domination, Hot Shot, Occupy, Escort, and Zone Control. Players can also practice the upcoming ranked system in a special mode. This mode will have 4v4 matches across selected game modes, preparing players for the official ranked mode. Ubisoft also says that rewards earned during previous test sessions and Insider Sessions will carry over into the full launch.

Ubisoft has also shared more plans for XDefiant. The game will switch to a seasonal schedule following a six-week preseason, providing new content updates every three months. Over the first year, players can anticipate the arrival of four new factions, 12 extra weapons, and 12 new maps. These updates will also feature fresh events, expanding the gameplay for the community.

Ubisoft said that more information about the launch of XDefiant will be revealed in the coming weeks, but this is a good deal more than we already knew. XDefiant really does look like Ubisoft’s new entry into the arena shooter genre. The game will have the fast-paced action and characters from popular franchises that everyone expected.
