Valorant, the hit free-to-play multiplayer shooter from Riot Games, has just revealed key details on Premier and its future. Premier’s Global Beta is now set to roll out in Act III of Episode 6, so fans will be able to try out the ambitious new feature within months. Here’s the full announcement trailer from Valorant’s official YouTube channel:
Valorant may have launched nearly three years ago, but it has consistently evolved in all of the right ways. The highlight of today’s trailer is undoubtedly the dev plans to establish Premier as an in-game route to professional VCT Challenger leagues.
Premier is even intended to replace open qualifier events, which can often feel too distant or discouraging for talented young players. Premier will encourage players to take the game more seriously. With the potential to build a legitimate team together, fans will have the opportunity to carve out an actual career.
It is also likely to boost eSports viewership, since the pro scene will feel like it plays a larger role in the game itself. There should also be even more standout newcomers to entertain fans of the game.
This kind of model is probably going to become very popular. Not only does it capitalize on the competitive nature of Valorant, which is one of its selling points, but it also adds meaning to every match. Although competitor Apex Legends has recently expanded its game modes for the new season Revelry, the highest skilled players are basically working for a dive trail and a badge.
In the meantime, Valorant is still keeping up with fresh content, as well as balancing changes and bug fixes, as seen in the recent version 6.03 update.
