As The Game Awards 2023 approaches, anticipation builds not only for the announcements and features but also for the exciting Steam Deck giveaway. Last year, Valve captivated fans with its generosity, giving away one 512GB Steam Deck every minute during the live airing of The Game Awards.
The Game Awards 2022 ceremony, spanning three hours, including a 30-minute pre-show, featured memorable moments such as Christopher Judge’s lengthy acceptance speech, lasting seven minutes and 59 seconds. Judge, renowned for his role as Kratos in God of War: Ragnarok, expressed gratitude to fans, friends, and family upon winning the Best Performance Award. While some viewers were divided over the lengthy speech, it translated into an equivalent of eight Steam Deck giveaways, adding excitement to the event. Christopher Judge is confirmed to make a return, not as an awardee but as a presenter at The Game Awards 2023
Given the emotional nature of acceptance speeches, it is reasonable to expect another potentially extended moment during this year’s awards. Consequently, it seems that changes have been made to the Steam Deck giveaway to guarantee a set number of devices to be distributed during this year’s show.
Today, Geoff Keighley, the host and founder of The Game Awards, has officially confirmed that the Steam Deck giveaway will be returning, but this time around, only 100 Steam Decks will be up for grabs during the show. The exciting twist is that the giveaway has been upgraded, offering fans a chance to win the latest Steam Deck OLED 1 TB version.
As in the previous year, entries for the giveaway will open at the start of the live broadcast, scheduled for 4:30 p.m. PT / 7:30 p.m. ET / 12:30 a.m. GMT on December 7. The Game Awards will feature a total of 31 categories, recognizing and celebrating the outstanding gaming experiences released throughout the year.
