Valve has submitted an application to register a new trademark for use in line with computer gaming software.
Valve Corporation is an American video game developer, publisher, and digital distribution corporation with headquarters in Bellevue, Washington. It is the creator of the software distribution platform known as Steam as well as the Half-Life, Counter-Strike, Portal, Day of Defeat, Team Fortress, Left 4 Dead, and Dota series of video games. Valve submitted an application for the trademark “NEON PRIME” on October 10, 2022, with the name styled with all capital letters. The application stated that it is intended to cover the categories of computer game software, electronic game software, video game software, and computer game programs that may be downloaded from the internet.”
Through the success of its many franchises and, most importantly, the Steam platform, Valve has established itself as a leading developer. Despite this, Valve is not like other studios in the sense that they put out new games on an annual basis. Their most recent AAA launch, Half-Life: Alyx, was launched in March 2020 only as virtual reality (VR) experience. The filing of the trademark application for “NEON PRIME” has given rise to several rumors and speculations, most of which center on the possibility of a new video game series. In addition, a Valve employee is alleged to have stated that the trademark belongs to a space game similar to FTL that Valve was working on at the time. While this is going on, some people have speculated that the trademark may be for a new CS: GO operation.
At this point, it is important to keep in mind that the trademark application is still in the process of being evaluated and has not been approved just yet. In any event, once the application has been approved, Valve will provide an official statement and publish more specifics.
