After just over a year since its launch on PC and PlayStation 5, Bloodhunt, the free-to-play battle royale game based on the tabletop role-playing game Vampire: The Masquerade, has been revealed to receive its final update soon.

In a recent announcement, developer and publisher Sharkmob revealed that future development of Bloodhunt would be ceased due to a failure to achieve the critical mass necessary to sustain development. Sharkmob expressed the difficulty of the decision to end the further development of Bloodhunt but stated that the studio would use this experience to develop future games.

Sharkmob has shared the following statement on the official Bloodhunt website:

Ever since launch, we have been on a journey to excite and delight our players, however, while we have an amazing and very engaged community, we haven’t been able to reach the critical mass needed to sustain development. This has led us to the decision to stop the further development of Bloodhunt.

With that said, Bloodhunt servers will stay up and the game will remain available to play. Our aim is to keep the servers going for as long as we have an active player base and community. For those who enjoy the game and want to continue playing, we have worked on some solutions to ensure that the game continues to be interesting. An in-game player voting system will be deployed to regularly unlock new things and keep Bloodhunt fresh. We will share more granular details about how this system works when we get closer to releasing our next update, which will be the last planned patch for Bloodhunt. Beyond that update, patches will only be related to maintenance.

Bloodhunt has been met with generally favorable reviews, with many praising its amazing spin on the Battle Royale genre. However, some have criticized its small player base, making the chance of success for new players too difficult. The game has also faced issues with hackers and unresolved bugs, which may have contributed to its lack of critical mass.

Bloodhunt‘s servers will remain operational as long as it has an active player base and community. However, the developer plans to turn off real currency purchasing on September 26th. Before this happens, players will be able to earn in-game tokens more easily to continue playing and unlocking cosmetics beyond this date.

As of now, there is still no specific launch date for Bloodhunt‘s final update, but it is possible that it may be available around the same time as last year’s Summer update, which was in July. Nonetheless, fans should anticipate further details to be shared very soon.
