Vengeful Guardian: Moonrider, an upcoming action platformer with a retro art design, has officially announced its new release date of January 12th, 2023. Originally scheduled for a Fall 2022 launch, today’s new trailer shows off PlayStation gameplay, but it will also be available on the Nintendo Switch and PC.

Published by The Arcade Crew, and developed by JoyMasher, the team that made surprise hit Blazing Chrome, it’s clear that Vengeful Guardian: Moonrider totally understands the appeal of retro games.

Its lore and attitude both look very promising, and the soundtrack will definitely play a large role too. It can be difficult for retro-style indies to stand apart, but the devs have built up plenty of trust with fans. Hopefully, the gameplay will feel balanced and function properly on launch.

There haven’t been many updates about the game lately, but even though the delay is a little disappointing, it’s always worthwhile for a smooth launch. Vengeful Guardian: Moonrider has enormous potential, too much to be wasted on technical drawbacks.

Fans quickly responded to today’s announcement with requests for physical editions. While there’s been no word on any such release, it would definitely fit the era of gaming that Vengeful Guardian: Moonrider has paid homage to.

Physical copies also tend to come with extra incentives, since the industry is mostly digital now. So, there could potentially be exclusive artwork cards, a vinyl soundtrack and so forth. The devs celebrated their artwork too, in a follow-up tweet:

There’s still a loyal audience for purchasing a physical collection, and not just for the nostalgia. For example, Cuphead may be a large title, but it made serious waves when it announced physical editions back in October.
