Drop Dead: The Cabin, the zombie VR shooter from developer and publisher Soul Assembly, has released its Mines and Modes update with a gameplay overview trailer. The update includes the titular mines as a new zone, more weapons, and new difficulty levels.

Drop Dead: The Cabin launched last February and is available now on Meta Quest. You can watch the full Mines and Modes update trailer on the Drop Dead VR YouTube channel:

The Mines have proven to be a totally distinguishable new zone, creating another kind of claustrophobia that keeps pace and feels highly thematic. The rickety wood, winding cart tracks and cramped tunnels create a natural sense of danger. Smaller details like the crystals and mushrooms also add a touch of mystery and color.

Fortunately, the Mines are accompanied by two new weapons that were designed to join it. The Uzi seems like more of a last resort, sure to burn through ammo too quickly. But as the Mines funnel enemies through various chokepoints, a sudden burst from the Uzi should help clear out small clusters.

Then, the rifle balances that out by providing the opposite. It’s powerful enough for one-hits, but rewards careful firing. Together, the two weapons are the classic long-range loadout, which should allow skilled players to keep zombies at bay in the Mines.

Drop Dead: The Cabin has only been out for a couple of months, so it seems unlikely that casual players could have mastered the game already. It feels like more of an arcade experience, jumping in with a friend for some breezy fun. But the Nightmare and Hardcore difficulty levels are sure to interest shooter fans who need something more to maintain interest.
