The Return of the World War game mode
Inter Season
In addition to seasons, this game mode will be launched regularly as an in-game event. The mode will have new mechanics, mission scenarios, or mass testing for these launches.
Similar to other events, this mode may be launched and timed to significant historical events and contain more valuable and unique rewards.
The first battle of the day in World War mode will bring players the “First Battle” Battle trophy, which contains boosters, wages, orders, universal back-ups, and modifications to vehicles used in the battle, including the Talismans!
Second Battle of El Alamein: 80 years later
From November 17 (12:00 GMT) to November 21 (12:00 GMT), join the “Battle of El Alamein” operation of the World War and get a unique decal!
November 1942 saw the end of what is believed to be the decisive battle in the North African theatre in World War II. British troops under General Montgomery’s command defeated Field Marshal Rommel’s forces, and an unstoppable retreat of the Axis forces began.
Because of this date, the “Second Battle of El Alamein” scenario in World War has been updated. The updates include the fixed set of vehicles in armies changing to groups of vehicles.
Players who participate in this event will have a chance to receive a commemorative decal, the emblem of the Queen’s Own Cameron Highlanders.
To obtain this, players must score 15,000 mission points in the battles of any operation they like. You are not required to be in a squadron, and playing in your squadron’s operations is not necessary.
World War: Combating High Ping and Packet Loss Issues
One of the most common complaints was the server issues regarding high pings and packet loss during the World War sessions. While it was believed that this was due to the high load on the servers, the real reason was the choice of the server cluster for the created session.
During the World War game mode, a logic was used in which matchmaking automatically selected the appropriate cluster according to the players in the queue for this battle. The session cluster on the server was selected by which cluster had more players in the queue.
At nighttime for Europe, many of these sessions were held on the North American region servers, as that’s where most players were from at that time.
To combat this, squadron leaders must select appropriate clusters in a prioritized list before creating an operation. Once the operation has been created, the cluster with the highest ratings from both leaders is selected. Then this cluster is assigned to the session.
New Mechanics for Finding, Joining, and Returning to an Operation
Previously, World War could be played by non-squadron members, and any player might find a battle in the World War battle list and join it, then stay in the operation or get back to the battle list and join another battle.
This is because it prevents players from experiencing immersion in the gaming mode since they cannot understand the situation’s plot, essence, and importance.
Another reason is that an extensive battle list was challenging to browse and affected the infrastructure greatly. So, the battle list has been abandoned.
Players in the World War menu will now see operation join buttons for each side. By clicking the button, the game will try to find an appropriate operation with a player’s chosen options, including a side and server list.
After joining the operation, players can return to the operation by clicking the button “Back to [the number of operation].” If you don’t like the operation, you can select a new one.
Squadron players will have access to an active button “Join the [the number of battle]” if their squadron is currently involved in the World War operation.
Squadron Changes and Readiness
Previously, players participating in a mercenary squad who weren’t part of a squadron were also experiencing difficulties. Some of these included players not knowing what the leader was currently doing and in which battles they wanted to play.
With the new squadron changes, squadron members can now see the leader’s operation instead of the “To Battle” button in the hangar and the squad widget.
These features will help players easily and quickly get to your squadron leader’s operation, where they can discuss strategies and make decisions. Squad members who are there and in the operation are automatically marked as ready to participate in the operation’s battle– they will have to confirm that they’re ready.
Removal of World War Vehicle Research Penalties
In the World War mode, operations involve two game nations with a limited list of vehicles for each nation. Previously, players who researched these vehicles received a penalty for researching high-ranked vehicles. As a result, this discouraged players from enjoying this mode.
However, War Thunder has now removed the penalty for research on high-ranked vehicles in this game mode.
